Abreva vs Lysine

AbrevaAbreva LysineLysine
Docosanol is used to treat "cold sores/fever blisters" (herpes labialis). It can speed up healing of the sores and decrease symptoms (such as tingling, pain, burning, itching). It works by blocking the virus that causes the cold sores (herpes simplex) from entering the healthy skin cells and growing in number. This medication does not cure herpes and does not prevent passing the infection to someone else. It does not prevent a future occurrence. Do not use this medication to treat canker sores (sores found commonly in the mouth), shingles, or genital herpes.Reducing recurrences, severity, and healing time of cold sores (herpes simplex labialis). Lysine seems to be effective when taken by mouth and also when applied as a cream to the skin.

If you use this product at the very first signs it stops the sore form getting worse. I absolutely love it. It's the closest thing to a cure. I no longer get the swollen uncontrollable outbreaks.

Lysine changed my life. I've been getting bad cold sores for the last 6 years. I started taking Lysine a year ago, and have not got one since. I take 1 pill in the morning everyday with vitamins..awesome!

I have suffered cold sores for 50 years and was taking using zovirax cream and more recently the tablets, but did not like the side effects of an upset stomach and intense dreams (not nightmares). I now take one 1000mg tablet of lysine at the first sign, usually the itch and then one 1000 mg tablet each day for 5 days. It works and the side effects are much less than zovirax. Other benefits from lysine seem to be a lessening of mild arteritic pain in my knuckles and a general feeling of 'wellbeing' and more energy. (I am 65). However, because of the reported side effects of gallstones and kidney problems, I am reluctant to take a continuous low dosage and increase it when the itch returns.
