It works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction. Cetirizine does not prevent hives or prevent/treat a serious allergic reaction (such as anaphylaxis). I have been taking taking Allegra 180mg once a day for over 5 years. While it is very effective in relieving allergic symptoms like itching eyes, ears, nose, face scalp it has a number of very unpleasant side effects, including: locks up the urinary tract bladder ache back pain leg and muscle cramps pain in the bottoms of feet Low energy level decrease in mental clarity and focus Sharp tickle in back of throat I do not feel the trade offs are worth it and have stopped taking it. Within 2-3 days I stopped experiencing the above side effects.

I've been taking Allegra/generic, 60mg, 1x/day for many years and it worked very well for my year round allergies. Recently my insurance stopped covering due to OTC status. Taking everyday since the season stated and recently started having an irregular heart beat. Anyone have this problem?

seeing as how throat Irriation and coughs so hard you almost black out, are sides effects make this drug pretty worthless. Add in the fact I have to take this drug twice a day to have ANY effect (thats 2 180mg pills) First chance I get I'm going back to Claritin.

Made me extremely tired. It has been twelve hours and I'm still groggy after sleeping all night. Slower than usual with my movements and thinking. I like to go, and this really has slowed me down. I used a Neti pot last night and it helped tremendously opening up my nasal passages. Think I will discontinue this medicine, because I don't like the way it makes me feel. I'm active and vibrant, and this has me slow and sluggish. The itching has me worried mention by others, because I've had hives in the past and hate itching of any kind.

I am older. I moved to an area with trees everywhere, city nicknamed "Arbor City." Suddenly nose went wild, sneezing terribly. Realized it was allergy to tree pollen. Started to take loratadine, after a while I had to double the dose to even make it work. Ceritizine went to over the counter drug status. Started using it. Find it better then previous med, still having occasional sneezing breakthrough.
