Thyroid hormone is used to treat underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). It is a natural product made from animal thyroid glands (usually a pig's). It replaces or provides more thyroid hormone, which is normally produced by the thyroid gland. Low thyroid hormone levels can occur naturally or when the thyroid gland is injured by radiation/medications or removed by surgery. Having enough thyroid hormone is important for maintaining normal mental and physical activity. In children, having enough thyroid hormone is important for normal mental and physical development. This medication is also used to treat other types of thyroid disorders (such as certain types of goiters, thyroid cancer) and also to test for thyroid function. This medication should not be used to treat infertility unless it is caused by low thyroid hormone levels.Liotrix is used to treat an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). I had previously taken Synthroid for 4 months and my tsh went from 6 to 1.5. However, I asked my Dr. for this new prescription as I heard it is natural and a doctor I used to listen to on the radio recommended it. I have been taking Armour almost a month and I am feeling exceptionally nervous which is so unusual for me. I am going to e-mail my dr now and get her thoughts.

I look as though I have aged 10 years in the 2 that I've been taking this. I've lost about 40% of my hair, I'm tired, my skin is dry and I'm losing my thoughts. Hard to lose weight. I zumba and weight train. I've decided to try a gluten free diet, my own attempt at a cure to thyroid issue. What can it hurt to eat healthy and organic foods? My levels are always good. I'm on 75 mcg. I've even tried a year of birth control pills to see if that would help regulate things. Sadly, I was almost ready to give into the reality that I have lost my youth. I'm going to find another Dr. and try Armor in hopes that I can feel alive and well again. Tired of every Dr. asking if I am stressed when I tell them about hair loss. I read the drug package the other day... it says that IF you are still experiencing hair loss after a few months, tell your Dr. Well, I have ... and have... Time for a new approach. Wish me luck. These side effect are real for me. And, I for one, believe there has got to be a better answer. I believe in cures.
