Fluticasone is used to relieve seasonal and year-round, allergic and non-allergic nasal symptoms such as stuffy/runny nose, itching, and sneezing. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works by reducing swelling (inflammation) in the nasal passages.Montelukast is used regularly to prevent the wheezing and shortness of breath caused by asthma and decrease the number of asthma attacks. Montelukast is also used before exercise to prevent breathing problems during exercise (bronchospasm). Singulair can help decrease the number of times you need to use your rescue inhaler. Singulair is also used to relieve symptoms of hay fever and allergic rhinitis (such as sneezing, stuffy/runny/itchy nose).

Stuffiness definitely decreased within 2 weeks of use, however not completely. After about 4 months of use I started smelling fumes/smoke - not all the time, but several times a day. At first, I really thought it was smoke, but after about a week I figured it out - something was wrong. I continued to smell fumes/smoke for about 3 1/2 weeks. Then, I started to smell bacon and have now smelled bacon on and off all day for about 3 weeks. I finally got into see an ENT yesterday and was advised to STOP Fluticasone immediately and saline spray as well. The ENT indicated that fluticasone has alcohol and cause extreme drying and combined with the saline wash uber extreme drying to the sinuses - he sighted ( sorry it's gross) scabs inside my nose up high near the sinus cavity ( which I can't see or feel), which indicate dryness. I will have a CT scan this week, to determine the true extent of what is going on. I have stopped fluticasone and saline spray.

This seems to have a very strong stimulant effect. I take it in the morning, but I am wide awake and reading books at 1am. This started about a week after I started Flonase to help with an inflamed ear (won't drain). My concern is not sleeping is not healthy.

I have experienced constant thoughts of suicide. Didn't know until checking on WebMD that Singulair could cause this.

I have been on Singulair since it was available. It has been a Godsend. I have had asthma for over 40 years. I just realized this evening that the generic is not working for me. My asthma has not been controlled since Oct '12. That is the time my pres was switched to generic. I am on prednisone now and even that is not working.I rarely took my rescue inhaler before Oct. Now I take it 4 time ...

I've taken Singulair for over 18 years and it was very effective and caused no side effects that I was aware of. Recently my phamacy switched me to the generic for of this drug and it has totally failed. I'm now dealing with a severe asthma problem and once again needing to use albuteral inhalers. STAY AWAY FROM GENERIC SINGULAIR if you have had good control with the name brand.

I have used Singulair for several years with great success. I hardly ever needed to use my inhaler. All of that changed this year with generic. It is a disaster. I am now using my albuteral at least 3 times a day. I will be asking my Dr to change me to a different drug the end of this month.

I have taken the NAMEBRAND Singulair for 15 years. It has controlled my asthma so well, that I only need the inhaler 102 times a year. Since switching to the generic, I have had trouble breathing - even walking up stairs. I asked my doctor for a short term Rx for the name brand, Within a day, I was breathing completely fine and I feel so much better For me, the generic does not work at all.
