Glipizide is used with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes). It may also be used with other diabetes medications. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. Proper control of diabetes may also lessen your risk of a heart attack or stroke. Glipizide belongs to the class of drugs known as sulfonylureas. It lowers blood sugar by causing the release of your body's natural insulin.Sitagliptin is used with a proper diet and exercise program and possibly with other medications to control high blood sugar. It is used in people with type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. Proper control of diabetes may also lessen your risk of a heart attack or stroke. Sitagliptin is an anti-diabetic drug that works by increasing levels of natural substances called incretins. Incretins help to control blood sugar by increasing insulin release, especially after a meal. They also decrease the amount of sugar your liver makes. This medication should not be used to treat people with type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetes).

This medication lowered by blood to under 100. Results from taking this medication ranged from 87 to 92. The only problem I have is that I am allergic to sulfar drugs.

my blood sugars have been stabilized at 6.0 for 6 months. I do have to eat every 3-4 hrs or my sugars get low.

Allergic. It was helping the three days I was on it and was feeling a bit better but I developed a rash and hives on day 3. Replaced with Glyburide which I was allergic to as well.

After first three days I saw a 50% drop in my blood sugar levels than usual. This while continuing exercise, diet and Metformin. This medicine allows me less of a strain in maintaining exercise which I do now every three days instead of two. Only side effect is swollen rear side of tongue but subsiding now since taking medicine every other day with same results. Have been on it 2 months. I'm satisfied but closely looking out for other side effects. So far so good.
