Hydroxychloroquine is used to prevent or treat malaria infections caused by mosquito bites. It does not work against certain types of malaria (chloroquine-resistant). The United States Center for Disease Control provides updated guidelines and travel recommendations for the prevention and treatment of malaria in different parts of the world. Discuss the most recent information with your doctor before traveling to areas where malaria occurs. This medication is also used, usually with other medications, to treat certain auto-immune diseases (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis) when other medications have not worked or cannot be used. It belongs to a class of medications known as disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs). It can reduce skin problems in lupus and prevent swelling/pain in arthritis, though it is not known exactly how the drug works.Hydroxychloroquine is used to prevent or treat malaria infections caused by mosquito bites. I have only been on it for a couple of weeks but I have been experiencing nausea and stomach pain. I am going to tough it out until February 2013 when I see Doctor and then decide. Joint pain not bad most times.

Been on this medication for 5 months now. I am always so tired and sleepy. I was not that way before. It does however help the inflammation in my joints. Also I have to have my eyes checked every 6 months to make sure this drug is not effecting my vision. Is it worth all this I don't know. My pharmacist suggested instead of 2 tablets a day take 1 and half. I am going to try this and see what happens.

For SLE. Took a good 5 months to really work, but has really helped pleuritis and joint swelling. Some problems with vivid dreams and stomach issues at first. Dreams calming down and stomach issues are gone now.
