This medication is used to decrease the risk of infection after certain intestinal surgeries. Neomycin belongs to a class of drugs known as aminoglycoside antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria in the intestines. Neomycin may also be used along with a special diet to treat a certain serious brain problem (hepatic encephalopathy). This condition is caused by too much of a certain natural substance (ammonia). Normally, the liver gets rid of ammonia, but liver disease can cause too much ammonia to build up in the body. This medication helps treat encephalopathy by killing certain intestinal bacteria that make ammonia. This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (such as common cold, flu). Unnecessary use or misuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness. This medication is used to prevent and treat minor skin infections caused by small cuts, scrapes, or burns. It is available without a prescription for self-medication. Do not use this product over large areas of the body. Ask your doctor first before using this product for serious skin injuries or infections (e.g., deep cuts, puncture wounds, animal bites, serious burns). A different treatment may be necessary for these types of conditions. This product contains neomycin, bacitracin, and polymyxin, antibiotics that work by stopping the growth of bacteria. This medication prevents/treats only bacterial skin infections. It will not work for other types of skin infections (e.g., infections caused by fungi, viruses). Unnecessary use or misuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.

I have always been inflicted with a butt cleft crack or fissure, sometimes last 2 days to 2 weeks if left untreated. This past attack was a nasty bleeding crack, I used this product and in 2 days I noticed a improvement and now 5 days not damage is noticeable and skin looks healthy. We have always used this US product with never an issue on anything from paper cuts to now Butt cracks. If you are allergic to neomycin I would stay away from this and maybe try polysporin instead, as its third antibiotic is gramicidin.

I had a biopsy on basal cell skin cancer on the left side of my nose. I used Neosporin daily for 5 days. The area around the wound began to blister. I discontinued use and the area seems to be improving. If you use this product for conditions similar to mine, use caution.
