| Add Prilosec review Taking for ten years 1 pill per day also, possible Gerd. This works for me, but wonder how long can one take the medication safely. My husband took this drug beginning December 2011. In May of this year, he became ill and test showed that he now has kidney failure due to taking this drug. He no longer takes it for his heartburn. He almost died from taking this, plus had to be on dialysis or a transplant list. Thankfully, the reason for the kidney failure was found and he was taken off the drug in time. He is still having ... It totally helped me....except when I stopped taking it after the 14 days....the heartburn came back. I kept taking it because it worked. I had an endoscopy and they said nothing was wrong with me....but I still have constant heartburn day and night for the past 7 years. I am worried about the long term use of this product, but I can't stop it because it helps. The medication works for me with little or no known side effects at the moment. I can certainly tell by about noon if I forgot to take the pill as reflux will return.
