Consult your pharmacist.Montelukast is used regularly to prevent the wheezing and shortness of breath caused by asthma and decrease the number of asthma attacks. Montelukast is also used before exercise to prevent breathing problems during exercise (bronchospasm). Singulair can help decrease the number of times you need to use your rescue inhaler. Singulair is also used to relieve symptoms of hay fever and allergic rhinitis (such as sneezing, stuffy/runny/itchy nose).

I was diagnosed with Adult Onset Asthma 5 months ago. My doctor put me on Proair HFA; it worked but I had to use it more times a day than the doctor really wanted me to. She put me on Qvar (once in the morning/once at night) with the Proair to use for backup. I have been on Qvar now almost 3 months and it is amazing how much better I am doing and how much less I need the Proair.

I have experienced constant thoughts of suicide. Didn't know until checking on WebMD that Singulair could cause this.

I have been on Singulair since it was available. It has been a Godsend. I have had asthma for over 40 years. I just realized this evening that the generic is not working for me. My asthma has not been controlled since Oct '12. That is the time my pres was switched to generic. I am on prednisone now and even that is not working.I rarely took my rescue inhaler before Oct. Now I take it 4 time ...

I've taken Singulair for over 18 years and it was very effective and caused no side effects that I was aware of. Recently my phamacy switched me to the generic for of this drug and it has totally failed. I'm now dealing with a severe asthma problem and once again needing to use albuteral inhalers. STAY AWAY FROM GENERIC SINGULAIR if you have had good control with the name brand.

I have used Singulair for several years with great success. I hardly ever needed to use my inhaler. All of that changed this year with generic. It is a disaster. I am now using my albuteral at least 3 times a day. I will be asking my Dr to change me to a different drug the end of this month.

I have taken the NAMEBRAND Singulair for 15 years. It has controlled my asthma so well, that I only need the inhaler 102 times a year. Since switching to the generic, I have had trouble breathing - even walking up stairs. I asked my doctor for a short term Rx for the name brand, Within a day, I was breathing completely fine and I feel so much better For me, the generic does not work at all.
