This medication is used to treat certain types of arthritis (rheumatoid arthritis, arthritis of the spine, psoriatic arthritis), certain bowel diseases (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis), and a certain severe skin disease (chronic plaque psoriasis). In these conditions, the body's defense system (immune system) attacks healthy tissues. Infliximab works by blocking the actions of a certain natural substance (tumor necrosis factor alpha) in the body. This helps to decrease swelling (inflammation) and weaken your immune system, thereby slowing or stopping the damage from the disease. This medication is used to reduce pain and swelling due to certain types of arthritis (such as rheumatoid, psoriatic, and ankylosing spondylitis). It works by blocking a protein (tumor necrosis factor or TNF) found in the body's immune system that causes joint swelling and damage. By reducing joint swelling, the medication helps to reduce further joint damage and preserve joint function. Depending on the type of arthritis that is being treated, this drug may be used alone or in combination with another drug called methotrexate. This medication is also used to treat a certain bowel condition (ulcerative colitis). It is used to help lessen symptoms of moderate to severe ulcerative colitis (such as abdominal pain/cramping, diarrhea, bloody stools).

I took Remicade from Sept 2003 until Dec 2008 at which time my insurance changed and I wasn't able to continue with it. It may a wonderful difference in my ability to have my life back again. I tried to restart last year but was unable to due to an allergic reaction to my second starter infusion. I would give anything to be able to tak this drug again.

I have been on Simponi now for 8 months along with MTX. Just recently I have experienced alot of nausea after my injection. Trying to overcome this because so far the drug is helpful.

I have been on Simponi for one year and it has been working well. I tend to be a little achy in the last week before the next injection. It seems to have helped the osteoarthritis in my thumbs as well. It took about 6 months before I really noticed a difference. I haven't had any noticeable side effects at this time. I switched from the auto injector pen to the syringe. With the syringe I know that I am getting the correct dosage. I sometimes wondered if I was with the auto injector. Methotrexate unfortunately gave me a lung infection & Enbrel had me feeling horrible. So far I have been pleased with Simponi.
