This medication was prescribed for chronic pain. It makes me very unsteady on my feet & makes my fingers slower, when I play the guitar. I am in a world of pain & do not think this medication helps me.

Zonisimide was prescribed as an "off label"drug to help with anxiety/depression.Although initially it did seem to calm me a bit after a month or so I began to become very moody ans jittery, irritable.I believe it almost changed my personality and my husband would attest to this.It was frightening to be so changed by a drug. I am off of it about 5 weeks now and feel so much better. My psychiatrist says my experience was not typical but I just wanted to throw this out there. I was beginning to think I was crazy but it was the drug.

I was diagnosed with migraines at 8 years old. My mother also had them all of her life and at age 9, my daughter began having them as well. I have tried every kind of migraine medicine known to mankind for a preventive or an abortive measure to be free of migraines. During certain stages of my life, I wouldn’t have any migraines but I didn’t know why. Over the past ten years, they have grown increasingly worse to the point that I was having them approx. 20 times a month. Imatrex worked for abortive but I needed a preventive. Finally, a new neurologist (a woman who didn’t just blame it on hormones) FINALLY gave me this prescription of Zonisamide which I slowly worked up to 100mg only at night. It does make me feel more tired than I should but I would trade that any day to having several consecutive migraine free days in a row any day! I started on this about a month ago and stopped taking Lyrica which didn’t get rid of my headaches and made me sleep all day. Within two weeks I stopped having headaches every day. I haven’t been able to say that for ten years. It does leave a bitter taste in your constant dry mouth and gives a little stomach upset that stifles your appetite. I lost 10 pounds this month. I am staying on this awesome pill. I had almost given up hope of finding something that worked. Thank the ever lovin lord!

I am taking this for migraines. I am on 25mg twice a day, which is a fairly low dose from what I understand but I can already tell a difference in my migraines. Not only have I had fewer (I was having 3-4 a week) but my headaches are taking longer to turn into migraines. They stay at just annoyance for much longer and sometimes even go away before getting worse. I'm still increasing the dose and hope I will get even better results. I was on Topamax for a week and though my headaches went completely away, the side effects were too much to deal with. This is a great similar drug that seems to have way fewer side effects.
