| Add Elavil review I have taken Elavil for many years, like about 20 years. I started out with a 10 mg dose and moved up slowly to 50 mg. It was prescribed for me to help me sleep through severe arthritic pain. I have taken the 50 mg dose for 3-4 years now and I will stay at that dosage. I take elavil at night for sleep, pain. NOW IM STARTING TO HAVE BLACKOUTS. I DO NOT SUGGEST MIXING SOMAS AND ELAVIL. I got up early one Saturday morning to go to walmart and wrecked my truck (totaled it). So I stopped taking the somas. Lucky to be alive. I don't know if it has a side effect of losing memory. I've been on various medications for the last ten years due to persistent, low-grade depression. Celexta gave me bruxism, Zoloft made me want to do nothing but sleep, and Cymbalta was great for me, but just stopped working after a couple of years. So my doc started me on this and it did nothing. After fighting depression, I consulted my doctor and she prescribed 10mg to start. I felt it working immediately. 3 months later, she increased the dosage to 20mg and I am completely satisfied. I am not edgy, short tempered and I sleep like a baby. This drug saved my life! Lexapro helped my depression a few years back when both Wellbutrin and another did not work out well for me.Lexapro did help my depression but I felt it kind of brought me to a mellow happy medium.
