| Add Elavil review I have taken Elavil for many years, like about 20 years. I started out with a 10 mg dose and moved up slowly to 50 mg. It was prescribed for me to help me sleep through severe arthritic pain. I have taken the 50 mg dose for 3-4 years now and I will stay at that dosage. I take elavil at night for sleep, pain. NOW IM STARTING TO HAVE BLACKOUTS. I DO NOT SUGGEST MIXING SOMAS AND ELAVIL. I got up early one Saturday morning to go to walmart and wrecked my truck (totaled it). So I stopped taking the somas. Lucky to be alive. I don't know if it has a side effect of losing memory.
