BisoprololBisoprolol SotalolSotalol
Bisoprolol is used with or without other medications to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as beta blockers. It works by blocking the action of certain natural chemicals in your body such as epinephrine on the heart and blood vessels. This effect lowers the heart rate, blood pressure, and strain on the heart. OTHER USES: This section contains uses of this drug that are not listed in the approved professional labeling for the drug but that may be prescribed by your health care professional. Use this drug for a condition that is listed in this section only if it has been so prescribed by your health care professional. This drug may also be used to treat mild to moderate heart failure. This medication is used to treat a serious (possibly life-threatening) type of fast heartbeat called sustained ventricular tachycardia. It is also used to treat certain fast/irregular heartbeats (atrial fibrillation/flutter) in patients with severe symptoms such as weakness and shortness of breath. Sotalol helps to lessen these symptoms. It slows the heart rate and helps the heart to beat more normally and regularly. This medication is both a beta blocker and an anti-arrhythmic.

I thought I was satisfied until I read the section on who should not take it. I have heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease and advanced peripheral neuropathy and should not be on this med.

Have been on this drug for 1 month. Tightness in chest and throat and shortness of breath. Hard time laying down. It made me itch, memory loss & depression. Dr. took me off of it and now on Verapamil. Feel so much better. Just can't tolerate the Beta Blockers

My afib was rare and sports induced until made worse by adrenalen. Sleep apnea was a bigger but related problem. Sotalol reduced me to 40 BPM. I can no longer run or walk fast or exercise stenuously. I am unable to exercise enough to reduce my weight. This is a catch 22 so I am inclined to wean off the drug until AFIB recurs. I think my AFIB and sleep apnea would largely go away if my weight were less. Comments appreciated.

I get tired on occasion; however, it has completely stopped my AFib.
