Amiodarone vs Sotalol

AmiodaroneAmiodarone SotalolSotalol
This medication is used to treat certain types of serious (possibly fatal) irregular heartbeat (such as persistent ventricular fibrillation/tachycardia). It is used to restore normal heart rhythm and maintain a regular, steady heartbeat. Amiodarone is known as an anti-arrhythmic drug. It works by blocking certain electrical signals in the heart that can cause an irregular heartbeat. This medication is used to treat a serious (possibly life-threatening) type of fast heartbeat called sustained ventricular tachycardia. It is also used to treat certain fast/irregular heartbeats (atrial fibrillation/flutter) in patients with severe symptoms such as weakness and shortness of breath. Sotalol helps to lessen these symptoms. It slows the heart rate and helps the heart to beat more normally and regularly. This medication is both a beta blocker and an anti-arrhythmic.

This medication has restored my hear to a strong regular rhythm. However, my doctor has told me I can only take it for a short period of time. He will substitute another medication in a couple of weeks.

After taking this medication, for over ten yrs, my A/F is no longer controlled ,so having ablation soon, but the side effects, are really awful, besides the light sensitivity, my Doctor thinks it has damaged my lungs, as I'm having frequent bouts of breath less. without any exertion . I, waiting for lung function tests,. but concerned if this is permanent damage. does anyone have these problems?

The side effects have been horrible, I had nerve problems of the eye within days of being on medication. I also had a good portions of all the severe side effects. It regulated my heart, but feel worse from side effects.

My afib was rare and sports induced until made worse by adrenalen. Sleep apnea was a bigger but related problem. Sotalol reduced me to 40 BPM. I can no longer run or walk fast or exercise stenuously. I am unable to exercise enough to reduce my weight. This is a catch 22 so I am inclined to wean off the drug until AFIB recurs. I think my AFIB and sleep apnea would largely go away if my weight were less. Comments appreciated.

I get tired on occasion; however, it has completely stopped my AFib.
