| Add Coumadin review after ablation i have been very tired and achy i was fine before(3-mo.s) use I have a stent in my cartoid artery in my neck, was taking plavix, went back to dr for test, was told my stent shut down, no bring it back so i am only have blood flow to one side of my neck to my brain, he put me on comundin for life taking 2 5mg pills a day. would like to have advice from anyone on this? I am relieved that there is a medicine that can control my own blood's emphasized clotting activity. It killed my father and grand father and left my aunt severely disabled after a stroke. I had a total left hip replacement & was put on 5mg coumadin when I was released from the hospital. I had to set alarm to take it at 5pm every day because I would forget. It made my joints & muscles achy and changed my personality. My husband said I was snapping at him and that isn't my nature at all. My gums bled terribly & my taste buds were way off. Also had a minor cut that took 2-1/2hrs to clot. My cardiologist was not concerned as his focus is on stroke prevention. I would like to get off this drug but dr. said stroke is worse. Have been on Pradaxa for about 1 year. Major side effect has been severe (at times)burning & itching of hemorrhoids following a BM. Doc took me off Pradaxa for 2 weeks & symptoms disappeared. Hate to think of surgery as hemorrhoids didn't bother me in the past. Looking at other blood thinners to see if condition improves.
