Montelukast is used regularly to prevent the wheezing and shortness of breath caused by asthma and decrease the number of asthma attacks. Montelukast is also used before exercise to prevent breathing problems during exercise (bronchospasm). Singulair can help decrease the number of times you need to use your rescue inhaler. Singulair is also used to relieve symptoms of hay fever and allergic rhinitis (such as sneezing, stuffy/runny/itchy nose).Cetirizine is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes/nose, sneezing, hives, and itching. It works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction. Cetirizine does not prevent hives or prevent/treat a serious allergic reaction (such as anaphylaxis). Therefore, if your doctor has prescribed epinephrine to treat allergic reactions, always carry your epinephrine injector with you. Do not use cetirizine in place of your epinephrine.

I have experienced constant thoughts of suicide. Didn't know until checking on WebMD that Singulair could cause this.

I have been on Singulair since it was available. It has been a Godsend. I have had asthma for over 40 years. I just realized this evening that the generic is not working for me. My asthma has not been controlled since Oct '12. That is the time my pres was switched to generic. I am on prednisone now and even that is not working.I rarely took my rescue inhaler before Oct. Now I take it 4 time ...

I've taken Singulair for over 18 years and it was very effective and caused no side effects that I was aware of. Recently my phamacy switched me to the generic for of this drug and it has totally failed. I'm now dealing with a severe asthma problem and once again needing to use albuteral inhalers. STAY AWAY FROM GENERIC SINGULAIR if you have had good control with the name brand.

I have used Singulair for several years with great success. I hardly ever needed to use my inhaler. All of that changed this year with generic. It is a disaster. I am now using my albuteral at least 3 times a day. I will be asking my Dr to change me to a different drug the end of this month.

I have taken the NAMEBRAND Singulair for 15 years. It has controlled my asthma so well, that I only need the inhaler 102 times a year. Since switching to the generic, I have had trouble breathing - even walking up stairs. I asked my doctor for a short term Rx for the name brand, Within a day, I was breathing completely fine and I feel so much better For me, the generic does not work at all.

I have been taking the generic form of Zyrtec for almost a year,I must say it has been effective in reducing my symptoms of indoor and outdoor allergies but at a cost. Within the last two months I increased my dose to 10mg in morning and 10mg at night,it wasn't until then that the side effects became more evident, chronic fatigue, weight gain, depression, anger, sleep disturbances. I asked myself what could possibly be causing this? It dawned on me could it be the Zyrtec? Sure was. Zyrtec is a mild sedative and when taken twice a day it stores in the body and mimics symptoms of a moderate sedative. I have been off five days so far,and have been itching at spontaneous times all over my body. I decided to comment on this terrible drug and will try to update my quitting Zyrtec cold turkey status when I can.

The Pharmacy, for some reason unknown to me, first gave me Singular when I was actually prescribed Zyrtec. I have been on the Zertec now for about a week and so far I have noticed no difference in the itching that I have. The itches is the worst when I am trying to sleep. I am going to give it some time and see what happens but I do have a feeling that the itching may be more psychological than allergy related so I am not really expecting it to work. I am, however, happy to report that I have had absolutely no side effects from taking this medication.
