Flecainide vs Multaq

FlecainideFlecainide MultaqMultaq
This medication is used to treat certain types of serious (possibly fatal) irregular heartbeat (such as persistent ventricular tachycardia and paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia). It is used to restore normal heart rhythm and maintain a regular, steady heartbeat. It is also used to prevent certain types of irregular heartbeat from returning (such as atrial fibrillation). Flecainide is known as an anti-arrhythmic drug. It works by blocking certain electrical signals in the heart that can cause an irregular heartbeat. Treating an irregular heartbeat can decrease the risk for blood clots, and this effect can reduce your risk of heart attack or stroke. This medication is used by people with a history of certain types of irregular heartbeat (paroxysmal or persistent atrial fibrillation). It helps to reduce the risk of going to the hospital for atrial fibrillation. Dronedarone is known as an antiarrhythmic drug. This medication should not be used by people with a certain type of irregular heartbeat (permanent atrial fibrillation) due to the increased risk of serious side effects.

Just started this drug 2 months ago. Very happy with the results. Minimal side effects initially which are now gone. No Afib at all. Also take Losartin and Triamterene for blood pressure and Xarelto for blood clots since I cannot take aspirin.

Taking Multaq and Pradaxa also Metoperol 25 mg 2 x a day. Began Multaq in 4/2013 and was effective at first. However, now I usually have some problems with irregular heart beat two to five days a week. Sometimes continues for several hours at a time. Minor shortness of breath and fatigue after climbing one flight of stairs.

I am 65 and have had 3 Heart Failures with AF residual. After Open Heart and other "cures", I finally had to discontinue Multaq as no apparent change in my condition and due to the HIGH cost. I have since substituted Amiodarone for great savings.

Have been taking 8 months for AF. Have developed severe pain in all joints which Dr. dismisses as being side effect.
